As a content writer who mostly works for B2B companies, LinkedIn is my go-to platform for finding potential clients because it’s the largest professional network in the world right now. This platform makes it easy to find notable companies to work (or collaborate) with and identify key decision-makers you can reach out to with your proposal. 

The problem, however, is that many professionals on LinkedIn don’t reply to InMails (LinkedIn’s communication system). Most of them prefer to have initial conversations via email. So if you’re using LinkedIn for sales prospecting, you might have a better chance of getting a response when you reach out to prospects via email, rather than sending them DMs on the platform. 

But how do you get their emails, you ask? 

That’s the question this article answers. In this piece, you’ll learn a few nifty ways to find email addresses on LinkedIn so you can kickstart your email outreach campaign.    

6 ways to find email addresses on LinkedIn

1. Use a Chrome extension that reveals email addresses on LinkedIn

  • When you find a key decision-maker you’d like to reach out to, open their profile. Here’s what it’ll look like:

2. Check the Contact Info section

To conserve your credits, search the prospect’s LinkedIn profile to see if they listed their email address. If they did, you can save your credits for other prospects who don’t have their email addresses on their profile. 

Start with the Contact info section, which you’ll find right under the prospect’s LinkedIn bio. This section allows LinkedIn users to list the ways through which people can reach them, and some people include their email addresses here.

The great thing about this method is that it’s completely free and straightforward. You don’t need to use any tools, it takes little time, and you’re not infringing on the prospect’s privacy because they made their contact information publicly available on the platform.

3. Check the About section

If you can’t find the prospect’s email address in the Contact info section, scroll down to the About section. Many people on LinkedIn, myself included, show their preference for email conversations by listing their emails at the bottom of their About section.

The main downside of looking through a prospect’s Contact info and About sections, however, is that not many people include their business emails on their LinkedIn profiles. 

This process is also not scalable; if you’re trying to build a prospect list, it is time-consuming and strenuous to check everyone’s profile one by one.

4. Export your connection list 

If you have a large LinkedIn connection list filled with people who work at companies that match your ICP, you essentially have a goldmine of prospective clients within reach. 

There’s a chance that some of these connections made their business email addresses publicly available. But instead of checking their profiles one by one, simply export your connection list. Here’s how to do that: 

  • Open your LinkedIn app on your computer and click on your profile in the top-left corner of your screen.  
  • Then tap Settings & privacy.

  • Next, tap Data privacy on the left side of the page and click Get a copy of my data.

  • Check the button that says, Want something in particular? Select the data files you’re most interested in.” Then check the Connections box. 
  • Click Request archive.

After a few minutes (depending on how many connections you have), LinkedIn will send you your connection file as a download. The spreadsheet will contain information like first name, last name, company name, job title, and email address. Those who made their email addresses available on LinkedIn will have that information next to their name in the spreadsheet. 

Pro tip: If you find people on your list whose email addresses are not available on LinkedIn, but whose companies match your buyer persona, don’t fret. You can export that data into your customer relationship management (CRM) tool and enrich the list using Wiza’s extensive B2B contact database (we’ll get to that in a jiffy). 

5. Use an email finder tool

So if a prospect doesn’t have their email address on their LinkedIn profile, you could just get their full name and company URL and plug this information into Wiza’s email finder, like so:

Click on Find emails and the tool will bring up the person’s verified email address in a few seconds. 

Wiza has a 97% accuracy when it comes to finding and verifying email addresses, but sometimes you won’t get the email addresses of the prospects you want to speak to. If this happens, you can find the email addresses of other people who work in the company and ask them to put you in touch with your prospect. 

6. Use an email permutator 

An email permutator is a tool that guesses someone’s email address using their public data. These tools often iterate through a combination of the person’s name, initials, nickname, and domain (or company name) to generate a list of probable email addresses.

To use it, enter the first name and last name of the prospect and the domain name of the company they work for (all of which you can get on LinkedIn). The email permutator tool will run through this information and automatically generate a long list of email address variations in seconds.

When I put in my first name, last name, and the domain name of my author website, this tool generated 34 possible email addresses in no time. The first one’s the correct one, by the way, but that’s not always the case. 

And therein lies the main downside of using email permutator tools — you’ll have to manually check each email variation to know which one’s the correct one, which is laborious. To ease this process, click on the Open in Gmail link at the bottom of the suggestions. This prompts a new email message with all the email variations added to the To field.

Hover your cursor over each email address. When you get to the right one, a pop-up will confirm that the address is indeed valid. To be extra sure, you can use Wiza’s free email verification tool to confirm that the mailbox exists and can receive emails.

Note: This method isn’t foolproof because email permutator tools don’t always generate the right email address variant. Some prospects use a completely different email pattern than other companies and these tools may not be able to guess the pattern. 

  1. Ask your prospect 

If you can’t find a prospect’s email address on their LinkedIn profile or with Wiza’s Chrome extension (which is rare), don’t give up and move on to the next person. Instead, shoot them an InMail right there on LinkedIn introducing yourself and your company. 

Since you’re reaching out to them out of the blue, try to send a personalized message to prime them to be more receptive to you. If they respond, strike up a conversation and ask them if they’d like to continue speaking with you on LinkedIn or if they’d prefer to transition to an email-based conversation. 

If they prefer email, politely ask for their email address and move the conversation over there.
