In 2021, I created my first WordPress website. Since then, I have created four more. How I evaluated WordPress hosting platforms

Before I break down each platform, here are the areas in which I evaluated each one: 

• Performance. This covers how quickly websites load that are hosted on each platform, and their uptime rates and server response times.
• Support. I checked for support that is both responsive and knowledgeable. I especially looked out for 24/7 availability through various channels like chat, email, and phone, and detailed documentation for self-serve purposes. 
• Security. I prioritize security features such as regular backups, malware scanning, and firewalls. I also checked if each platform offers SSL certificates and ensures data protection to keep both the website and its visitors safe. 
• Scalability. I assessed scalability by how easily one can upgrade or scale resources to accommodate growing traffic and/or content volume without slowing down or experiencing website lagging.
• Pricing. I analyzed pricing based on the value offered versus the cost. I also looked for transparency in pricing structure and hidden fees, if any. I think it’s important that the cost aligns with the features and services each platform provides. 
• Reviews. I also hit third-party review sites like G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot to read reviews, gauge user satisfaction, and learn from their experiences. I looked for patterns in feedback regarding uptime, support, and ease of use, considering both positive and negative reviews to get a balanced perspective.

• No free domain. SiteGround offers a tool for buying domain names, but it does not offer a free domain name with its hosting plans, which can add to the initial cost of setting up a website. 
• Limited data storage. Even on higher-tier plans, the storage limits are somewhat modest compared to other hosts that offer similar pricing. This can be a drawback for sites that require large amounts of data storage.

• Traffic limits. WP Engine’s plans come with monthly visitor caps. Exceeding these limits can lead to additional charges, which might not be viable for websites experiencing variable traffic. 
• No email hosting. Unlike SiteGround, WP Engine doesn’t offer email hosting, requiring users to seek third-party services for their email needs.

Performance

Cons of Bluehost
