Is LinkedIn Recruiter Worth It?

LinkedIn Recruiter is typically ranked among the best hiring platforms because it gives you full access to its unparalleled network of professionals.
Is this enough to make LinkedIn Recruiter worth its hefty price tag?
We’re going to look at why we think it’s worth it and why we think it’s not so you can make the best decision based on what you value.
5 Reasons Why LinkedIn Recruiter Is Worth It
LinkedIn Recruiter is a powerhouse of a platform that allows you to search candidate profiles, reach out to potential hires, and collaborate with your team. Unlike Recruiter Lite, you get complete access to all features, which is what really makes Recruiter worth it.
1. LinkedIn Recruiter Gives You Full Access to the LinkedIn Network
700 million. That’s how many users are currently in the LinkedIn network, and that number continues to grow yearly.
No other competing hiring platform gives you access to such a wealth of professionals and their extensive profiles.
While Recruiter Lite only allows access to your 3rd-degree connections, Recruiter allows you to search the entire network, which is a remarkable feature on its own.
2. LinkedIn Recruiter Grants Full Functionality
As mentioned, Recruiter (unlike Recruiter Lite) gives users the platform’s full functionality. This means greater options for searching for candidates, outreach, and team collaboration.
These features include:
- Full network access
- 40+ search filters (including open to contract work filter and skill assessments filter)
- Spotlights
- Candidate and company insights
- Search Insights
- Up to 50 candidate search alerts
- Ability to add tags to candidates for filtering & categorization
- 150 InMail messages per month
- InMail pooling across your account
- Ability to send bulk InMail messages
- Multi-user dashboard
- Ability to collaborate in shared projects
- 20 free collaborator licenses for hiring managers or clients
- Collaboration features like @mentions in notes, message sharing, and recruiting activity
- Company data ownership
- Applicant tracking system integration
- Extensive reporting
- OFCCP tracking
3. LinkedIn Recruiter Is the Industry Standard
We’ve worked with many recruiters, and most agree that LinkedIn Recruiter is the industry standard for searching professional profiles.
In fact, some have even stated that they expect a LinkedIn Recruiter seat and that they’d find it unusual if they were joining a company that didn’t offer one.
4. LinkedIn Recruiter Is Designed for High Volume Hiring
Unlike LinkedIn Recruiter Lite, Recruiter is designed for companies that require a higher volume of hires.
Recruiter is made for team rather than individual use, and a lot of functionality is built in to allow for high output outreach. This includes the ability to send out bulk InMail messages, create templates, and streamline the process of tracking candidates through the pipeline.
Thanks to easy-to-use collaboration tools, it’s easy for your team to stay on top of the hiring process and communicate effectively across shared projects. These features include @mentions in notes, message sharing, and tracking recruiting activity across Recruiter users.
This is what Recruiter does best, and these processes and functions have been refined over the years to drive recruitment.
5. LinkedIn Recruiter Is Integration-Friendly
Recruiter is designed to integrate with over 28 applicant tracking system partners, so you don’t need to reconcile data across platforms manually.
Likewise, Recruiter integrates with several other LinkedIn solutions that you may already be using, including LinkedIn Talent Insights, LinkedIn Talent Hub, and other LinkedIn marketing solutions.
5 Reasons Why LinkedIn Recruiter Isn’t Worth It
Of course, not every solution is perfect, or at least perfect for every organization. Here are a few reasons that LinkedIn Recruiter might not be right for you.
1. LinkedIn Recruiter Is Pricey
LinkedIn Recruiter’s price tag is probably the single most influential factor that discourages organizations from pursuing it. The availability of Recruiter Lite makes up for this, and if you’d like to learn more about why Lite is and isn’t worth it, check out our previous blog post.
Billed annually, LinkedIn Recruiter costs around $9000, which is around $825 per month. On a monthly plan, the price is around $1000 per month. This number may change depending on your organization’s size and location, and you will need to speak to a sales representative before proceeding.
With other hiring platforms that do a lot more, some companies feel that what LinkedIn Recruiter offers fails to justify its price tag. But, again, it depends on what your business values.
2. LinkedIn Recruiter Is Not For Smaller Teams
Recruiter is geared toward larger organizations with greater hiring needs. It’s not going to be worth it for smaller businesses, and this is likely one of the reasons you have to talk to a sales rep before continuing.
All of the added functionality that comes with Recruiter may be more than a smaller team needs, so it’s important to keep this in mind.
3. LinkedIn Recruiter Is Not a Comprehensive Hiring Platform
Yes, Recruiter does allow you to search, perform outreach, and collaborate, but it isn’t a complete, end-to-end hiring solution like some of its competitors.
For example, LinkedIn Recruiter will integrate with every major ATS platform, but it doesn’t have every necessary function. You’ll need other solutions if you want to manage legal, compliance, background checks, and so on.
If there are any features you want to inquire about, check with your LinkedIn sales rep so you can set accurate expectations before investing in Recruiter.
4. LinkedIn Recruiter Is Sometimes Buggy
Unfortunately, Recruiter is not the smoothest platform on the market. Many of its users are happy to grin and bear it for the sake of getting all the benefits of a LinkedIn solution. These include issues like glitches, server issues, connections disappearing, messaging problems, and crashes, to name a few.
Every solution has its issues, but many users have voiced concerns that Recruiter should be more polished for $1000 per month.
5. LinkedIn Recruiter Does Not Export Contact Info – Or Does It?
Are you the type of recruiter who likes to find candidates on LinkedIn, pull their contact information, and then pursue them via your preferred means (as in, outside of LinkedIn)? LinkedIn, understandably, isn’t friendly to that. Naturally, they’d like to keep you on their platform.
And, as great a platform as it is, not everybody is fond of using it. How many candidates have you reached out to who were happy to connect through their email but never responded to your LinkedIn messages or InMail? Some candidates just aren’t keen on using LinkedIn.
If you want to run a search in Recruiter and then use your list to pull everyone’s contact information, there’s no way to do that within the system. This adds a lot of work for recruiters who would rather contact candidates via other means.
But there is an easy-to-use alternative called Wiza.
